Well, the subtitle says it all. I have been away for a little bit, and now most of my computers are messed up in some form or another. Ill try to be as discriptive as I can be.
First, my main rig. It is a water cooled Athlon 3500+ on an Asus Mother board (the make leaves me for now.) with a 330 watt Antec True power supply, a Radeon 9600 XT and a couple of hard drives (that aren't really important right now.)
The first thing that I notice when I try and start up this machine is that I get no Video. I can hear the water cooler running and the fan blowing, but the monitor is not giving me any video. I have tested the monitor on a laptop and it works just fine. I have tried switching out the Video card with a fairly new Radeon 1600, that does not work either. I tried reseting the bios and many other tricks, they dont work. I have swapped the ram a bit between machines, when there is no ram in I get the friendly *Hey stupid, you forgot the ram beep*. This one puzzles me.
My thoughts.
The power supply is not dead, as everything is running ok (so it seams). The mother board as well seams just fine as it lets me know that the ram is missing. However, that does not mean that the AGP port is not bad. The ram could be bad, but I don't see how 4 sticks can all go bad. My brother said that it was overheating and I think that he forgot to plug in the pump to the CPU. My guess is the CPU might be fried (I hope not, that heatsink is a pain to get off and on). Any other thoughts?
My next rig is (as far as I know) an athlon 2500+ Socket A. it has the nice video card. a 300 watt power supply, and a Gigabyte brand mother board. This problem has me more confused. First off, I try to power on, nothing, not even a beep or a twitch. I then think "Oh, It is probibly the power supply as it is only a 300 Watt Generic brand" so I try a couple of power supplys, no luck. I then try unplugging and clearing the BIOS, thinking that might be a problem. When I turn the computer on I see the fans twitch ever so lightly. But nothing comes, and another push of the button does nothing. My next test is to swap the ram around and look for ary jumps. Still can't find anything wrong. I don't know what is going on here. It should work just fine, but it does not. Recently the Video card died on this one, and so My brother replaced it. Now it does not work.
So any Suggestions on one or 2? For the first one I think I might try getting a new MOBO and processer (heck I might as well get a PCIE Video card while im at it). The second, however, I don't know what to do with.
Thanks
