last friday i recieved 2 hitachi sata 250gb from zipzoomfly, they arrived well packed in foam shipping containers.upon installing them i found neither one can be detected by my computer or 2 others.
one is even making a weird noise constantly, and it has a crack near the molex power connector.
I called today to RMA for credit because as i had previously talked to them about how i needed it
no later than friday for a system i was building.so i recieved them dead so i had to buy 2 locally to finish the system i was building.when i talked to them the service rep mentioned the would have to "Inspect" the one with the crack,i have a feeling they are going to try to blame the damage on me which is not possible.what are my options if they try to screw me over on this?from what i see the BBB already has alot of problems with them.It looks like tcalling my credit card company will be my only recourse.

anyone have any advice?

| | <-- that's the bind you're stuck in.

The only advice I have in this case is for you to maintain (prove?) that you were under a strict timetable to complete the build and you'd in no way sabotage the work just to cause more headaches for yourself. I mean, how would it cause the other (non cracked) drive to be dead also ? The chances of you being right are high, but whether they will be honest about the RMA is another story.

Maybe telling them that you belong to a few large hardware boards will also persuade them... can't imagine they like bad press...

BTW, did you already try running hard drive diagnostics against the "bad" drives ? Or can you not even reach that step ?

i know for a fact both drives are dead,i tried them in 3 different computers and the maxtors i bought locally were detected right off the bat.i can't even run diagnostics on the drives because they aren't even detected.

I had to RMA a mobo before they changed their name and I had no problems. I also ordered 1000 bucks in processors and I accidently hit the purchase button twice. They quickly rectified the situation.

Why are you creating a problem before it exists?

You're acting like they've already denied you a RMA just becuase the rep said they need to check the drive for user-inflicted damage.

Also, to help prove your time critical sitiuation, you could offer to fax them the receipt for the local drives that you had to buy.

"I have a feeling" you're jumping to conclusions and slamming a company before giving them a chance to make things right.

i'm not jumping to conclusions,i had a problem with them once before where they tried to charge me 15% restocking fee on the wrong item they sent me and also wouldn't refund the shipping charges for sending it back to them.after many calls,BBB report, credit card company getting involved they finally admitted it was their fault.
if they are inspecting the damage of course they are going to deny it was them.if they don't it would suprise the hell out of me.
It really bothers me i spent so much on these drives and they are both broke.
btw i am testing them as we speak on yet another computer and neither is detected.
got the rma number,it's going back today.just want to be prepared for their crap.

Since you don't trust them and don't get along with them, why did you place the order at all, instead of using newegg, mwave, or your local store, especially for something you say was time-critical?

newegg didn't have it in stock and i thought i would give them another try thinking that since the resellers ratings looked ok that they might have changed.and the hitachi drive is not available locally around here.

Makes sense. Hopefully you're wrong about them and you'll get credit or at least replacement drives you can use in your next build.

You might take the suggestion about showing them your local receipt, especially if it shows a higher price.
