Purchased my 98 gsr at a Lexus dealer back in June of 01'.. it came with one mod which was an aftermarket intake. Extended warranty was purchased through autonation usa.
Im the type that doesnt use the a/c much.. only in extreme cases where I cant handle the heat ill use a/c... so for the 9months~ I had the car the a/c usage was very minimal. about 2-3 weeks ago when socal had the scorching weather I decide to turn on the a/c on my way home from work and I noticed it wouldnt blow COLD COLD air. I thought it was strange so I just left it on thinking with time itll blow cold air. But to avail the a/c would not blow cold air.
I made an appointment with Lexus and told them my situation. I brought the car in.. they looked at it and concluded that my a/c compressor was out. (honestly I thought I had run out of freon or something) ... I ended up making another appointment because the extended warranty mechanics only work during the weekdays, so i was told by Lexus. My car ended up being there 2 days .. had to wait one day for the parts to arrive.. and another to work on the car.
So I finally get my car back yesterday after paying my 50$ deductable.. I sit in the car.. turn the engine on and test the a/c .. =) worked great
I leave the dealership.. I proceed to get on the freeway and notice a significant powerloss.. it seemed like my car was heavy as fawk. As soon as I got home I popped my hood and my fawking intake was not connected all the way.. it was half way off!
I pulled the intake off.. and I heard a pssssssssssssssssssss noise.. It appears that my intake was sitting and rubbing on one of the 2 a/c hoses.. and it melted away the black foam around the hose. I rushed into the house and called Lexus .. but had to leave a message because they were closed.
I rushed back out and further examined the hose and the intake. Basically the hose started leaking from the intake pipe rubbing against the hose for a period of time (metal against metal) does this make sense? sorry if it doesnt... just ask any questions and ill answer from there...
anyhow I asked the service advisor to call me asap.. but I have not heard anything yet.. I just want some advice on what I should say? I just need some reassurance that this is not my fault as they sold me the car w/ the intake. and they never gave me the stock. Also they should have caught this as I presume they had to take my intake off because it was loose when I got home
