So my carpal tunnel is getting bad enough that I am probably going to have to go to the specialist. My confusion is how to handle this.

Up to this point I have just paid for doctor's visits/wrist braces using my work funded HSA and my flex account. From what I understand, the specialist and/or surgery can get very expensive. I have no problem paying for this if its my responsibility, but don't want to pay out the ass if I shouldn't have to.

I've only worked at this job around 9 months but I was having trouble at previous jobs. I went to that company's med center for it, so I'm not sure how that plays into things.

So who decides who pays? How is this whole thing handled? I'm not looking for free money, just clueless about this sort of thing.

What state are you in?

Every state is different in how work comp claims are handled.

Here in Kahleeforneeya, that would probably be considered cummulative trauma, and they'd end up going after your current employer and past employers to cover it. (their work comp, not the company)

After having been dicked around by a couple of companies and their work comp carriers over the years, IMO, the FIRST step is to contact a good attorney who specializes in work comp. The insurance companies have lawyers, why shouldn't you?
