Hi there folks!

Right now I am in a sorta mid-life crisis with my computer situation. I currently have a kick ass computer, but I think it is overkill for me, as I dont play many games on it and I would like to "downsize" to something more portable and clearer. I have a 19" viewsonic Monitor running the following system:

http://www.anandtech.com/mysystemrig.html?rigid=16001
highlights include:

2.4ghz AMD Athlon XP
768mb DDR ram (512 of it is crucial)
ATI Radeon 8500LE 64mb
Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev2
Maxtor 80gb HDD, ultra quiet
Antec SLK3700BQE
Lite-On 48x burner
Logitech MX Duo and Z640 speakers

I currently bought this eMachines laptop computer from Bestbuy, but yet have opened it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?j=1&id=1076453205560&skuId=6338224&type=product&cmp=%20%20
Last week, it was 1099.99 - 400 rebates, which gives it it 699 A/R price. It is unopened, and I have until this saturday to change my mind otherwise.

At the same time, Staples: http://www.staples.com/catalog/configuration/bto_details.asp?PageType=1&cal_Sku=559165 is having a similiar specs Compaq w/out the 40 gigs and the CD-RW that the eMachines has, but the plus side is that it has an ATI integrated card, instead of the Intel extreme graphics card that is offered on the eMachines. On top of that, it is only 899-100(coupon) - 100(rebate) so I am not putting out 200 + tax in rebates, which is pretty nice...

I am not asking for a price quote on this, please dont get me wrong.

Here are my questions I been wondering:
1) Are there significant performance difference between the ATI integrated Graphics and the Intel one?

2) Does anyone have an eMachines laptop (at least one that was purchased recently) that they can comment about on the usability, performance, and solidness of the laptop

3) Why should I keep the desktop if I don't even use it that much?

I guess that's all I can think of now, I'll probalby think of more later... thanks in advance!

If you can cough up the extra cash I'd go for an eMachines M6805. IIRC, it's $1250 after $250 in rebates at Best Buy this week. Make sure to get a Reward Zone accout when you buy it for a quick $75 back.

I have an M6805 and it's just about as fast as my desktop except in hard drive intensive stuff and gaming (2500+ @ 2.3, 512MB RAM, WD Raptor, 80GB Maxtor storage drive, FX5900 @ 5950).
