Ok.. this is the history of my problem.
I used to have a GeForce 2 GTS.. and in windows 98 se when playing games like HL and other 3d games I'd often times get BSOD's, or a black screen with the green stripe across the top, eventually I switched to 2k and that problem went away. Now I have a GF3 in my system, and when playing 3D games the computer will spontaneously reboot/freeze/BSOD. I've pretty much narrowed it down to my vid card causing the problems. I have a generic Vega something or other motherboard that I bought for like 50 bucks. Do you think a new board of real quality, Abit/Asus would fix this problem?

Most definitely

The video cards are reference type cards and Mobo's if cheap will give weird results under load.

reboots/ freezes sound like possible heating or power issues...could be with card but may be cpu or power supply...sometimes intense 3d games really tax the system and cause this issues. Have you tried a cpu program or other intense prog to make sure it is not cpu? What size is the power supply and size of cpu????

Use a program like sissoft, mbm 5.0, or cpucool to try to monitor voltages...

It's an 800 mhz CPU.. 300w power supply. I just reinstalled mbm 5 after reformatting and now I'll go play some RTCW and see if it heats up..

... just played a few and no raise in temp at all.. nothing noticable in voltage either.

Alright, I've got the newest drivers, CPU temps don't rise, and everything else seems fine. Basically it's just what I had described in the first post of this thread. Anything further before I go out today and pick up a new Asus/Abit board?
