Need some advice. Is crossfire worth the trouble?

I thought about getting another 3870 to crossfire, but just wonder if my 22" LCD needs it? Would I see improvement? The only games I really play are Quake 4 - Freezetag Mod and capture the flag, Call of Duty 4 - very limited play. I dabble in a couple of other games, so would adding another card give me big gains in these two games?

Quake is OpenGL, right? so, no help with crossfire...

It depends on what resolution that 22" is running. But seeing as how it's a single 3870, it would probably help at 1680. At 1920 or above it would definitely make a huge difference.

Like pointed out above, CoD4 should be boosted, opengl Quake4 not.

No, Crossfire doesn't 'not work' with Open GL, thats absurd- it just doesn't scale past two GPU's (so tri and Quad Crossfire don't offer benefit over dual Crossfire...a fix is due in a future driver release). Yes, you will see an improvement with Crossfire on a 22" LCD but you might also consider just waiting for the 4870 rumored to be due next month which would be a better choice than running two GPU's.
