Try not to accuse him in front of any friends of his, so he can give it back without losing respect in front of anyone. But make sure you talk to him before he talks to the useless teachers, they're stuck to asking in the nicest way possible only.

Confront him straight on, tell him you know people who saw him take it and to get out of school and get it back to you IMMEDIATELY before the principal sees him. If this isn't enough, outline that anything he says while you're in earshot is going to end up being heard in the principal's office, you'll make his life hell at school until you get your stuff back. If he's not smart, he can be intimidated into doing what you want.

Hey Kenny, this sucks. And I thought my friend sucks.

Best thing to do is forget about the mp3 player, and don't ever come close to the guy again. He does not deserve a friend like you.

I feel for you man.. I had almost the exact same thing happen in high school, except it was my TI-85.

The guy was also a pot dealer, and he was in my group for an assignment we were working on. Everyone checked their stuff, and he was forthcoming to let me search him myself. I had good reason to believe that it was him who did it (can't remember exactly why), and the school got the police to question him.. but nothing really turned up.

Whatever you do, don't let time pass, and don't be a wuss. I let too much time go by and I ultimately failed. If I could do it all over again, I would have probably yelled at him immediately, and did things to scare him into giving it back. I don't really see any other way. Authorities are pretty much useless, so you have to take matters into your own hands. Just don't get yourself in too deep.

<< how much was that thing worth? >>

Not the point. If I was in the same situation and knew the same info as Kenny, I'd grab him, pound him against a locker and sqeeeeeeeeze his neck until he fessed.
