Just wondering what dsl/cable companies here are the better ones and which ones I ought to avoid. I was thinking about Earthlink DSL since they have a promotion going on right now, but I wanna know what's good first before I sign up for anything. So far I looked at AOL, Earthlink, and ATT. They're all about the same price, but I still wanna get a quality check from users here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

If you're referring to Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota:

Vector Internet Services VISI is excellent for both Minneapolis MN. residential and corporate dsl. Knowledgable and quick response tech support, competetive rates (similar to AT&T, Qwest, Earthlink) and they've just implemented very effective anti-spam technology.

I used USFamily.net dial-up for years. Lower cost than ANY competitor with much better connection stability and signal strength. I personally haven't used their DSL ISP services but those I know who do use it are very pleased.

DSLReports.com has a lot of good ISP information as well as consumer reviews of service. You can often find reviews of the service you're interested per the area of availability. You can also input your # and get a list of ISP's servicing your area.

I use Mediacom Cable Broadband myself. I prefer the overall higher download capacity cable provides for the same price. But cable's not the way to go if you host a lot of online games or run a server.

Good luck!

Like Sketcher said,
If you plan to do a lot of uploading, DSL would probly be your best bet. Cable is so limited on uploading that it's almost a pain. Better then dialup tho.

I have had ATT since they first came out with cable in the cities. Back when it was mediaone. I am somewhat happy with it. And I live in the cities as well. White Bear Lake Area....

For Dial up my dad still uses Spacestar and we have never had any problems with them.

How bad is Qwest in the Mpls/St Paul area? I heard very bad things about them, but they are the backbone for VISI and others that have a good rep here.

I've implemented VISI dsl over Qwest lines for the last three years for the corporation I work for. Nothing but good experience. But that's from a corporate service experience. I'm not sure how Qwest's ISP and current Personal DSL infrastructure rate. I've heard little if any issues with Qwest from the infrastructure end. You might dig something up on DSLReports.com.

I have a Qwest/MSN DSL line here in Hopkins. Hooked up pretty quickly and never had a problem with it going down, at least not while I was using it.
