I just sold a 700.00 laptop on ebay and the buyer has good feeback but payed by an echeck thats gonna clear in about a week. The bad thing is that paypal says im uneligible for seller protection because he has an unconfirmed addreess. What would you do?

So i should still send the money? The guy had 100+ positive 100% feedback but only from sellers, no buyers, and he buys weird like clothes and stuff.

refund his money and tell him to confirm his address.

That's what I'd do. especially for a huge payment like that.

If he disputes the payment, he will win. no questions asked.

next time, put "confirmed paypal to street address only" in your auctions. Make sure you put the signature requirement on the delivery

yep, wait until it clears to ship of course (send him an email stating that too)

send w/insurance and/or delivery confirmation, in case he claims it didn't arrive

maybe ask him to confirm his account? maybe he doesn't know how/why

No, there is a good chance he won't win.

how "good" is his feedback? does he get most of his feedback from sellers or buyers?

This happened to me a few weeks ago only with a $100 video card instead. The guy wanted it shipped to his work address, understandably, but could not get it verified. I went ahead and shipped it anyway because of good feedback, good communication, and it wasn't a big value item. I may have gotten lucky, but I will from now on put in my auctions that I will only ship to confirmed addresses.

Feedback would be irrelevant since it could be a hijacked account. OP, set your paypal preferences to automatically deny unconfirmed paypal payments and you wont get this problem anymore.

you're an ebay noob. quit spreading misinformation. if a seller sends to an unconfirmed address, and the buyer disputes the transaction for any reason, the seller is SOL.

refund the money. If the buyer doesn't want to confirm his address, File a non paying bidder report to get your FVF back, and relist.

direct the buyer
here.

withdraw to your bank right away once it clears :)
or... you can check that option in the sell item menu where you only accept paypal payments from verified addresses.

Yeah and after 8 weeks you're down $800 + overdraft fees because paypal took it back.

PayPal can't take the money directly from your account, they can only seize funds you try to send from your account through PayPal while a hold is placed. And hold funds that are sent to you, so just stop using it if this happens. I say if his feedback is reasonable go ahead with the deal, and then change your Ebay preferences to only accept confirmed addresses in the future.

the only time you'll have to worry is if you actually do get the money into your bank, but the buyer disputes and then your paypal balance is -$700. then you'll probably have paypal hounding you for awhile.
