I am about to graduate from university, at the end of May I will no longer be on my mom's health insurance plan. Fortunately (or unfortunately, in this case) my job doesn't start till June 28th and I wanted to go to Hawaii for 10 days to do some fun things before the real world starts, but I won't have any health insurance whatsoever.

What are my choices? Is it possible for me to purchase a one month health plan or something like that?

I don't plan on doing anything crazy, but i'm not going to sit in my hotel either, and it would be a real smart thing for me to have some type of health insurance in case i get myself into some kind of injury.

I know how to scuba dive, and I am probably going to try and pick up surfing (i have no idea how to do this)

Help me out guys, you never fail me :)

Are you kidding me? I've gone YEARS without health insurance. Hell, i've had heath insurance for the last year, and i've used it exactly zero times. Don't worry about it. Go have fun...paranoid much?

Speak with your university, they usually have some type of short term health coverage. Additionally, a lot of other organizations offer it (including Keybank, who were kind enough to offer me short-term coverage some 10 months after I graduated for 30-180 days....)

Another option sometimes is your mom's insurance would let you pay in to buy the insurance for a month.

I just heard an ad on the radio (106.7 WJFK) advertising a free month of insurance. I think it was with Aetna. Give them a call and check it out. I'll keep an ear on the radio to listen for the ad again for you! ;)
