Need Some Advice About Choosing A PSU

I know this question has been asked a lot so please forgive me. I?m building a new rig and the only thing I haven?t decided on is the PSU. I know the PSU is one of the most important things so that?s why I?m asking for some advice.

Right now my rig will have a
C2D E6600
Asus P5NE-SLI 650i
2GB kit DDR2-800 of Crucial Technology Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA804
eVGA 8800GTX
1 300GB 7200RPM IDE hard drive
1 160GB SATA hard drive
1 DVD-RW/DVD+RW
Sound Blaster Audigy Pro sound card
Font bay fan controller
4 80mm fans.

I used the extreme power supply calculator and even at 100% Power Supply Utilization it only said I need a PSU that was 403 watts. This didn?t seem right, I don?t know if I?m doing something wrong or not. I thought that I would need at least a 600W PSU, no more then 700W, so it seemed that 650W would be just right.

What would you guys recommend and can you give me some good named brand PSU companies to choose from. I?ve heard OCZ, Thermaltake, PC Power & Cooling, Antec, Seasonic are good ones, but I?m not sure. Thanks for the advice in advanced.

I will second the Corsair HX series. They are made by Seasonic, but apparently less noisy than any of Seasonic's PSUs of similar wattage.

Get a HX520 if you don't plan on upgrading to SLI; get the HX620 if SLI is in your future.

I would like to not spend more then $160, realistically I think any thing higher then that is absurd. Am I right?

Yeap, Corsair seems like the right choice then.

When I was at Monarch we did a ton of systems with the OCZ GameXstreams, never had any issues with them.

700w

don't skimp on power supplies (not that 160 is skimping), its always a good idea to have a bigger powersupply then you need (and really always best to get the best one you can afford) to allow for upgrades/overclocking... If you plan on overclocking the e6600 or the 8800gtx your powerdraw will go up. And remember that 600watts from one brand does not mean 600wats from the other, most manufacturers list peak output under average room temp (which is quite different from average temp inside a case). A good brand 600 watt shoudl be fine for your needs but if you are thinking about sli then going with something like pc powerand coolings 750watt silencer (should be able to find it for < 200) might be a good idea.
