I just built my own computer and i have pretty much everything working really well the only trouble i am having is when i try to play games it wont let me.

I own battlefield 1942 gta3 unreal tournament 2003 and dungeon siege

all of these games except dungeon siege wont play and dungion siege wil only play for a little whil before the screen gets really messed up looking and i have to restart the computer

the cases with both gta3 and battlefield 1942 is that they will sho the starting logos for both games then the screens go black and the make a noise and then it goes back to my desktop and nothing hapens

with unreal tournament 2003 it says "please enable direct3d acceleration you can do this by starting dxdiag and enabling direct3d acceleration in the display 1/2 tab after installing directx 8.1b (or later) and the latest drivers for your graphics card." I have dowloaded both directx8.1 and have dowloaded the latest drivers for my ganward geforce for ti4200 video card

i think this might have a problem to do with either my bios settings (i have phoenix - award bios) or my graphic card drivers (gainward geforce 4 ti 4200 64mb 650tv-out/dvi gold sample)

i would appreciate any tips or pointers you might have to offer.

Thnx:confused:

I heard lots of ppl complain about that due to the installation of Norton Antivirus/System Work/Internet Security:
I saw this on CNet
"Want to play games? Do NOT install this!" T. Martinsson on 07-Dec-2002 11:42:54 pm
I've been a long user of Norton's products and I was very much anticipating the 2003 version of Antivirus. I installed it on my Windows XP Professional and everything seemed dandy. That was until I started my favorite game Global Operations and Unreal Tournament 2003. I've had 70+ FPS in both games with all details maxed out. Suddently, after installing Norton Antivirus 2003, the games become EXTREMELY choppy and stutters like hell. I wonder what it was and I recalled I had not installed anything but Norton Antivirus 2003. So I deleted it, restarted the computer and voilà - everything was smooth again. Nope, I'll wait for a MAJOR patch to fix this. In the mean time, I'll go back to 2002.
