Need snowboard equipment help....

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I bought some brand new Switch X-type Step-in bindings and don't have my boots yet. I've heard that a lot of models of Vans are compatible with this system and are preferred, but I can't find any in my size. Most places on the net like fogdog only have a couple of smaller sizes in stock.... Does anyone know of any large snowbaord equipment outlets I might be able to call or find online? Vans is one brand, but I'm not sure of any others. Thanks...

try blades.com? or check local store, most of the stuff i got i've checked at local stores in the city.

The Switch binding system (two metal bars running lengthwise along the side of the boot) is owned by Vans.

Vans, Northwave and maybe one or two other boot manu's create boots for that system.

I would personally try to find a local dealer to try on boots rather than just order from the web. Boot fit is probably the most important part of all the equipment you have. Bad boots could result in a few things like your feet hurting, massive heel lift, etc...

But if you really want to shop online, here you go (linked to boots for you):
Board Tactics
Eternal Snow

Doesn't look like much selection left.

Thanks for the post. I did Email customer support at Vans to see if they can point me in the right direction to find a vendor somewhere.

I normally wouldn't buy boots online like that, but I have to get some before March if possible. I don't wanna get stucky trying to find some on the mountain and run into the same problems I'm seeing online. There's not a lot of selection....

Most resorts have a decent amount of gear stores nearby that are usually better stocked than city based stores.

Which mountain/resort are you going to?

while that's true, don't most resorts force you rent the whole package rather then just providing you boots? (haven't rented in years) 😱

ps, we'll be in rutland,vt next week hitting all the slopes starting with Sugarbush, so if you folks are in the area, lemme know 🙂

While you can rent gear, you can also buy gear from these places. Which is what I think Scarpozzi had in mind.

I know the ones in the Rutland/Killington area you can do that as I go there all the time. Might be at Killington myself March 1st/2nd.

I located a store by doing a search on Dogpile. They had some Vans that were in size 13 (which I can wear snuggly in most shoes) They're newbuck too so I might wear them around the house and stretch em out slightly.

They were $112 shipped...so I came out alright. 🙂 Thanks guys...

I am in charge of a group that will be riding in Killington March 12-16. If anyone wants to join us, it is only $280 for lodging, 3 day lift ticket, food, and booze(if your 21)! A great deal! We are staying here:

rail fence house

We have a few spots left, pm for more details.

As for boots:

I have heard good things about
www.grizzly-sports.com

Good luck,
Jim

Ohh yeah, what do you think of my setup. I'm 6'4", 212 pounds.

I got a Burton Cascade 2002 173cm with Switch X-type step-in bindings and some Vans Maxim boots. Should be a pretty tight setup as long as I can get everything broken in. 😛

I'm not really into freestyle stuff...just wanting to do some downhill riding and some carving.

I'd say the board is too long for you.

I'm 6'1", 225lbs and I ride a 165 and could not see myself going bigger except for extremely deep powder.

My setup:
Never Summer Premier T5 165 (from 01/02 season)
Drake F60 (from this season)
Salomon Malamutes size 11 (from this season)

I would think a 165 sized board would suit you better. You might find yourself having serious trouble turning in mogulish runs and tree runs.

Hope the boots fit you well. Different boot manus make different style boots.

Pic of my setup.

I know you'd think the board is too long for me, but Burton came out with this series last year specifically for taller riders that weigh over 200 pounds. It's sort of like a long board-surfboard. The design still gives plenty of room for turning and control from what I've read. So I'll give it a try and see how I like it. My stance is pretty wide anyhow and it'll make it easier for me to bend my knees on the ride if I'm on a longer board....hopefully, my boots won't be too far over the side cause the last thing I want is toe-drag.
