Someone may have an innovative idea.

Both my personal phone and work phone were on Verizon. So I transferred the contacts on my personal phone over to the work phone and dropped the personal line. My wife still has a line on verizon.

Fast forward 1 year and I am going on a two week vacation. I don't want to take my work phone as I get about 200 contacts a day between emails, texts and calls. I don't want that distraction while trying to relax.

How can i get a US smart phone for this period? I am assuming I will have to buy a phone, activate it for a month and then cancel? Sounds like a pain. Any end runs I can do?

I'd personally buy a Nexus 5x via Google Fi (currently there's a $150 discount for doing so), and then cancel Fi when you're done with vacation, and sell the phone. But I imagine that there are less expensive ways of doing it, if you're fine with less capable smartphones -- retailers like Walmart and etc carry crap models on prepaid plans.

Assuming you are not leaving the US and don't want/need work stuff either get a prepaid sim from VZ and use that or if you want a totally different device and want to keep it cheap go to T-Mobile or ATT they have some pretty low cost android smart phones for prepay.
I've worked in wireless for years.

Olds, pm me your address, I'll loan you a nexus 6, pay for a month of T-Mobile, or whoever, the n6 will work on everyone's network. I have a fresh SIM card I can give you as well, T-Mobile screwed up and sent me a handful.

If you break it, I'd like the going price on swappa :)
