i need small speaker that could fit under my LCD screens. i have dual 2407 LCD setup and there is now room on my desk for tall speakers. please help me out. it doesn't matter if they are 2.0, 2.1 or 5.1, but must have headphone jack. sound quality needs to be decent. what can you guys recommend me for a budget of $200? thanks!!!

most decent speakers can be wall mounted. klipsch sells wall mounts for reasonable amounts. u can use standard ones from any store too

Guess that depends on how high you mount them?

Ear level is usually your best bet if you can manage that. Would just to the left/right of the monitors at that level work for you?

How high up do you have your monitors now? I know it's height adjustable so how much space is there belof the base of the panel and the desk surface? (if you need to have them under it)

i'm typing on my monitors now. mounting on wall would be definitely too high... they would be above my head. yes, they are height adjustable, but the range is limited unlike my old NEC. right now i have them at max height and i have about 5" in between of the desk and the base of the screens.

When you say they would be too high, are you talking about mounting them above the monitors instead of to the side?

yeah, above. if i really want to make room for the speakers, i can squeeze them in both top left and top right corner of my desk. i have a 5-ft desk. do you think they would be too far away?

edit: btw, thx for your help, soundman 🙂

5 feet apart is pretty far if you're going to be fairly close to being right between them. Could be worse though.

My initial thought for a nice short speaker was Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0s on their sides. I haven't played around with any to know if orienting them in different ways would mess anything up.

Newegg lists DIMENSIONS: 10.5? H x 3.25? W x 6.5? D
So if the width became your new height, that would be plenty low enough for you.

Coming in at ~$100, this would leave you some budget to get a sub if you wanted to.
Dayton 10" would put you over budget by a bit.

For a full 2.1 kit, I think the Klipsch promedias would also work with the sats on their sides.

Klipsch iFi is based off the RSX-3 bookshelf speaker and looks like the width on that would be right around 5 inches as well. At least in the past you could find iFi for $200 and if that would work for you that might be the best way to go.

Someone else please shed light on the sats on their side part. I have never actually tried this with any of these speakers and want to make sure that changing the orientation isn't going to fvck up the tweeter / woofer interation.

5 feet apart is good. too close is bad, too far apart is bad, but 5 feet isn't an issue.

Guess I'm kind of in the mode where 5 feet apart would mean 7-8 feet away from the speakers would be a good listening position. It's been so long since I've had "computer speakers" 😛
