Need Small Portable Printer that can sit betwee uses

I am looking for a small portable printer that I can take on vacation for a week or two and then let it sit till the next time we travel which maybe several months. I don't think the ink jets will fit the bill since they don't like to sit for long periods of time. A small laser printer is the only thing I can think of and that is going to get expensive. Have I missed something?

Why must the portable printer sit idle between vacations? Just exercise it once a month with a test page and it should last with no problem. That way it is always ready to go.

BTW, what kind of a vacation requires printing? Just curious.
 
I have a small a small motorcycle products business so I need to be able to fill orders if I am gone more than a few days. I use stamps.com to print postage. I also print invoices.

You can get a Brother HL-2280DW monochrome laser printer with scanner and wireless right now for $100, with free shipping (check Techbargains). Then just pick up a few cheap generic toner cartridges off eBay. This isn't a "compact" printer, but it's small enough to easily fit into most spaces, and cheap enough to leave somewhere for future use (no huge loss if it's stolen etc). Good luck.
