Need small 12-14" laptop

I'm looking for a small (12" prefered, 14" okay) laptop, with good battery life fairly high on my priorities. I don't need blazing fast performance, not going to be gaming, but I don't have patience to deal with a 400 MHz CPU no matter how well you tell me it does on batteries. Budget is $1000, ideally $750-800.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

What is good battery life?

For $899 you can get the Lenovo N100 14" WXGA Core Duo 1.66 512MB 80GB DVDRW Fingerprint reader.

For $999 you can get the Lenovo V100 12" WXGA Core Duo 1.66 512MB 80GB CDRW, but you will want to add a 6-cell battery for $140.

For ~$900 you can configure a Dell E1405 14" WXGA Core Duo 1.60 512MB 80GB DVDRW 9-cell which will get better battery life than the Lenovo, due to its larger battery.

I'd stick with Lenovo-much higher quality.

The MacBook Non-pro is 1,000$ or less if you can get a student/teacher discount.

Dell is inferior to Apple and Lenovo in terms of warranty and quality. (With lenovo, you stand a good chance of not even needing the warranty.)
