I do photo editing on my workstation...not a gamer. I need a simple video card for my new build on a pentium quad platform. I also need a vga output as I am still using crt monitors.
Is this a good card?

SAPPHIRE 100234VGAL Radeon HD 3450 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

Typically video cards that have dual dvi will come with adaptors for VGA use. 3450 would be fine provided you are not gaming AT ALL or doing any type of 3D work

I'll second that. Based on your description, a 3450 is a good fit for this machine. ATI boards always come with at least 1 DVI->VGA converter. Check the pictures to see whether the other port is already VGA; otherwise, buying a 2nd converter should only run you about $6.

MSI 3450 fanless
Sapphire 3450 fanless

Both cards have 1 VGA out and 1 adapter to convert the DVI-to-VGA so your monitors will work fine. Both are $17.99 after a $15MIR, with shipping the cost will be $25AR.

Perfect for 2D work and watching hi-def movies. Not so perfect for games - look elsewhere if you even consider wanting to game on this machine.

THX for the input...so this won't slow down my rendering or hurt the resolution of my photos? I do want to eventually run 8 g of ram.

Rendering a still photo is not accelerated by a video card. The only purpose this will serve is to give you a basic display.

any discrete graphics card that was created by ATI/NV in the last 3 years should be fine for the usage you are looking for

As far as I know photo editing doesn't support graphics acceleration so like Ares202 said anything from the past 2-3 years would be perfectly fine for your purposes. As far as VGA goes you could always just use a DVI->VGA converter that comes with the cards.
