Is there a place to buy really short net patch cables, to go between a router, switch, cable modem? Something like 6 inches (not over 10 inches)? And without making my own. I not use 3 foot and is it a mess.

I use a 1 foot patch cable to connect to my cable modem to my router. in my apartment.
In my parents house, I use a few 1 foot cable to go from patch panel to the router and have not had any issues yet.

You really shouldn't use Cat5/5e shorter than 12 inches. It will cause a significant amount of feedback that could make the connection completely unusable. Even at 12 inches you probably won't get the speed that you'd expect from a proper length cable.

For really short runs (I have some that could connect together with 4 inch cables since they are just patches between stacked routers and switches), I use 3 foot cables and curl them up with twist ties so they are out of the way. It keeps things clean and I don't have to worry about cable runs being too short for Ethernet specs...

Yes indeed. I tried testing short cables with a $10,000 lucent certification tester, and they all failed when shorter than a foot. Most failed between 1 and 2.

You can tie 3' cables up nicely with those wire twist ties.

spec is one meter I believe.

but for non-professional use it should be fine.

the velcro straps > wire ties, and they can add color to you bland wiring closet. (last comment was said with sarcasm, btw)
