NEED SCSI HELP!!!!!!!Updated INFO

HI,
I bought a scanner from a member off the fs/ft forum and it wont detect when I plug in the USB on any of my machines, We have tried everything.So It is also scsi capable but neither one of use knows much about SCSI.I need to pick up a scsi card but dont know what kind to get.Can someone help by telling me what I need to know in order to get a SCSI card to get this scanner to work?

SCSI is alien technology, the only thing pulled from the wreckage of the Roswell UFO crash that's usable by the human species. We don't know how it works, just that when it works, it works well. Getting it to work, however, is the real challenge. Even those of us that have been using it for years are still mystified by the wonders of SCSI.

In short, if you're leary about computers and not too sure of yourself, SCSI is either a stepping stone to greater achievements if you want to learn about computers or what will break you if you're not feeling very technologically adept. If you're bent on getting the scanner working with SCSI, Adaptec makes the best cards on the market, but they tend to be pricey. Tekram makes good cards, as well, and they are somewhat cheaper. You can probably pick up an older Adaptec 2940 PCI SCSI card for $30 or so off a certain Internet auction site, but that's not top of the line, not that you'd need it just for a scanner, though. With SCSI, though, you need to be thinking about resource management, ie, assigning an ID to your device and making sure it doesn't conflcit with anything else if you add something else to the chain. Lastly, SCSI cables are expensive, no matter where you buy them from, and you need a terminator on the second SCSI port if it's not connected to anything else.

In short, you need a card, a cable, a terminator, and lots of guts. Good luck.

what's your hardware specs & what OS are you using?
if it's win98 then have a look here.
if you're using a via chipset, have you installed the usb filter driver from here?

Your SCSI Scanner is most likely a 50pin SE (S)ingle (E)nded device. You will need a SCSI card with a 50pin External SCSI Connector. If you are only planing on using a SCSI scanner on your system, you can use a loe end SCSI card such as a Adaptec 2940. You may or may NOT need a additional Terminater, your Scanner may have a terminater built into it, some SCSI devices do, yo will have to check the Specs of the scanner to find out for sure. SCSI isn't that difficult to use, but it can get expensive. I switched over to all SCSI about a year and a half ago and have since NEVER bought another IDE device, nor would I ever consider it. Here is my system configs

I will most likely use the scanner with a ASUS A7A266 (ALI Chipset) or a ASUS A7V (VIA)

I will run win98SE or WIN2000 Pro

The Scanner is a HP 6200c scanjet

Not sure if you tried this, but some USB devices recommend that you install the drivers before you actually plug in the device. I believe the HP scanners are this way.

Also, I recommend plugging in the scanner with the computer on, after you've installed the drivers.

There may be a switch on the scanner to switch between USB or SCSI. Check mfrs web site if you don't have manual. Generally, drivers for USB devices have to be installed before the device is attached. Download latest USB drivers for scanner. Be sure USB is enabled (assign IRQ, etc.) in CMOS setup and available--look in DevMgr. If USB fails, cheapest PCI SCSI card will handle scanner--many scanners come with adapter. No SCSI BIOS needed for scanner. Tekram, Advansys, SIIG and Adaptec all make adapters that work well in win--many available cheap on ebay.
