I recently purchased a Compaq 72.8 GB 10K rpm drive (part # 176494-b21) that is capable of Ultra160. I have a 39160 in my box, and it syncs another IBM 10K rpm (DDYS-T36950N) drive that I have at 160 mb/s perfectly. Now, the Compaq drive is SCA, and I purchased an adapter to 68 pin that 'claims' to be capable of Ultra3 (160 mb/s), but so far, I've noticed that the drive peaks at 40 mb/s.
Further, if I put both of my 10K rpms on the same channel, they both bottleneck at 40 mb/s. I also tried switching cables, thinking that my cable had gone bad, but still, it peaks at 40 mb/s.
Is it common to have a converter that doesn't support u160, or do I have a faulty drive? Thanks in advance.
