Need scanner recommendations

I'm looking into purchasing a decent scanner for scanning photos/dvd covers. I'm interested in getting a flatbed scanner that can do 8.5x11" and at least 1200x1200 dpi. I have about $100 to spend.

I appreciate your recommendations.

I recommend the Canon LiDE 30 or the HP 3670/3970. Although the LiDE 30 is a convenient, small, and portable size, I've always loved the quality driver support and durability of HP scanners. If you're looking for something you can hide or carry, the LiDE 30 is great.

do you have the Canon? i'm curious. my HP isn't upgradable to XP without putting out money for a driver disk. i'm NOT going to give HP any money for an update for XP use!

also, there were at least in my driver (which i kept updated) issues with usability with the software that i found very irritating.:disgust:

I have an (slightly older) HP scanner, and it sucks terribly. The driver software is even worse than the hardware (and is probably part of the cause of the suckage). A Canon would probably be ok, but I much prefer Epson scanners.

Check out the Microtek ScanMaker 4800. Flatbed, up to 2400x1200 dpi, can scan slides also with a special attachment that came with it. I paid $89 maybe 6 months ago, I would imagine you can pick it up for a bit less now with some shopping.

The 4900 looked great too, but at the time it was $150 and I got tired of waiting for a sale.

Check out the HP Scanjet 4570cse @ Best Buy. It is on clearance for 139.99 I believe, regular price of 199.99. Has dual CCDs, Slide/negative attachment, and upto 2400 dpi. They also may have some HP scanjet 3500's left for 54.ish which are plain 1200 dpi scanners.

I just picked up a Scanmaker 6000 for about $110

6400x3200 optical resolution

Also has the slide attachment

They had cheaper scanners, but this looked to be the best bet for the money

Glad you like it, that's great resolution on it! I've been very happy with mine, but I'll admit now I want the 6000 hehe.
