Can anyone recommend a good scanner for use with Windows NT4. Its for a business that runs NT4 and won't be changing OS's for awhile. I've had a hard time finding anything decent that runs in NT4. Also, a sheet feeder would be nice. We have about $600 to work with. Thanks for any suggestions.

Since you want to use the scanner on Windows NT your options are somewhat more limited. You will probably have to run the scanner SCSI. Most new scanners today are USB and Firewire but SCSI still works. With that being said I would go with a company that has a long history of support with SCSI. One model you might want to consider is the Scanmaker 9700XL by Microtek. It has a SCSI-2 connection and software that would support the scanner in Windows NT 4.0.

That one does not have a sheet feeder or an option for such a thing but is more of a professional based scanner. If you could deal with a smaller work area and really want the sheet feeder then I would look at the Microtek X12USL Office Edition. It looks to be the only scanner I see today that has SCSI as a interface option and the feeder attachment as an option.

If you have Service Pack 6 for NT, you will probably be able to run a USB scanner. You might want to do a little search among the different manufacturers to see which ones make drivers for NT. I've used Microtek SCSI scanners with NT and have been disappointed, but that's only my experience.

Check out the HP Scanjet 82xx series or their older series 74xx series. The 7400 series should have pretty good prices as they were just replaced by the 8200 series. The 7450 has an ADF, and the 7490 adds software and a SCSI kit. The 8200 only works with NT w/ a SCSI connection.
