Thanks for the help. I'll have to finish this tomorrow because so many people in the house need the wireless. I'm using the old router for the time being.

okay, good luck. According to that video once you flash you just need to reboot the router to get your wireless back. I've never flashed an ARM router so this is all new to me too. Keep in mind that running tomato ARM is still kind of buggy. I don't think they have QOS worked out yet. Other than that I think it's good. When you get time read this thread. It will help you. http://linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/tomato-for-arm-routers.69719/page-17

Sometimes with Tomato you have to reboot to get the wireless going. My opinion is that Tomato on the R7000 or any ARM based router has too many bugs at present and just isn't ready for prime time. I have gone back and forth quite a few times and dd-wrt has better support and is much more easy to setup.

To answer your question as to what version of dd-wrt I am using at present. I am using Brainslayers latest, 26535. If Tomato does not work and you decide to switch, I suggest reverting to stock netgear firmware before flashing dd-wrt.

Do not get me wrong, both are far superior to the stock firmware. I can only attest to my own personal experiences with each.

Take a read through this thread. http://www.myopenrouter.com/forum/t...DD-WRT-to-Tomato-cannot-login-user-pw-denied/

Hopefully tuspock can jump in and help since he also has the R7000 and has flashed back and forth multiple times.

I'll tell you I've flashed my MIPSR2 based router to different versions of tomato probably 50 times and have never had a bad flash once. I don't know what happened. If you did what it showed on the video it should have worked.

I pinged 192.168.1.1 in the cmd prompt and got "transmit failed. General failure.". I did ipconfig /all and got 169.254.163.251 for my IPv4 address.

Open a command prompt window and type "ping 192.168.1.1 -t"

Leave that window open.

While the router is powered on press and hold the reset button on the back for at least one minute and then release.

Wait a couple minutes while watching the pinging command prompt window for any response.

OKay, I waited 3 mins and I'm still getting the same thing. It says "transmit failed. General failure". I'm assuming it's safe to say that this router is bricked for good?

Edit:
Going to exchange this at Amazon. Hope i don't get too much trouble from Amazon considering I already returned the Asus.

At this point I can only suggest you go here.

Hopefully someone can give you a suggestion.

If it is truly bricked, it may require using a serial console mod, no easy job.

I gave up and sent it back to Amazon. I'll just wait for better call Saul. It's only two weeks!

Use SmartDNS, no special router needed.

I'm not sure if you understand what I am trying to do. I want to watch 4k content from a country half way across the world on my big screen TV. It is impossible to watch 4k content on a pc because the media studios decided to lock 4k content directly into all smart televisions. I can not stream Better Call Saul 4k on a PC. I can only stream it to a 4k television. SmartDNS seems like a software that only works on a computer. If it only works on a computer, I can not get 4k content from Netflix.

If you just had a crappy old computer sitting around, you could get a second RJ45 port (or wireless adapter) in it, load up PIA, then share the internet connection in Windows and connect the TV to that instead.

Thanks therealnickdanger. I might try that out. I'm actually reordering the Asus ac68u because I like it better than the r7000. The Asus is a lot harder to brick from my experience and Supports DD-WRT. The signal is also very good in my home.

if you're going to use a crappy old computer, check out pfsense as the OS. There's PIA instructions on their site.

I run pfsense in a VM under virtual box to create a private network at home that tunnels all it's traffic through PIA.
