Need router help from networking genius

I have recently gotten a cable modem and wanted to connect all my computers through this connectoin with a firewall. I bought the edimax 6104 4 port router with 1 wan port. after hooking everything up all computers hook to the net just fine but cannot talk to each other. They ping each other fine but i cannot access files amongst them were i could before. I guess my question is can a router be used as a hub and if so what ami doing wrong? I have tried to search for the other computers and they cannot be found. Am i going to have to hook a hub to my oruter in order to do this? Any help would be appreciated.
