I removed the thermal pad on the CPU module in my laptop and tried replacing it with silver heatsink compound. The problem is, it doesn't work because the tolerances between the module and heatpipe are so great that the silver compound doesn't make sufficient contact. I presume this is why a thermal pad was used in the first place.
Anyway, does anybody know where I can buy a good replacement thermal pad? I don't believe the one in there was a phase change kind, it was about 1 mm thick and had cloth fibers running through it. I already checked with Dell and they only sell it as part of the entire cooling system and not separately.
