Hi All,

My old ATI Wonder graphics card bit the dust. I never used all the TV features and inputs and I stopped keepin up with the development in AGP graphics cards which are now basically obsolete.

So what do you recommend? About $150 is my price range. Just play some games, mostly offline, not at the bleeding edge.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Another card worth considering is the X1950GT, it's $138 and would be faster than the 1600 series, 2600 series, and 7600 series of cards....

If you went with this card, you would need to be sure your power supply can handle it first. As hclarkjr mentioned, if we knew your specs it would be helpful. Processor, Motherboard, Power Supply make and model?

Thanks for the leads so far.

The board is a DFI Lanparty and the case and PSU are good solid Antec units so the PSU will be able to drive the card. I had to look into that for the original board as well.

The processor is an Athlon and I think it is a socket 754 processor. I'm not sure of the speed.

This case also has plenty of fans to keep things cool.

Unfortunately, I can't just go ask the machine what it is because I cannot read what comes up on the screen! Even with a new graphics board, It will be a pain because I cannot put the old board back into a standard mode and/or uninstall it. So installing the new board will be an adventure as well. Ah yes, the joys of computers when they don't work!

I will continue with the hunt. As I said, I just did not keep up with the GPU developments after I built this machine and now everything seems to be PCIe or better.

Thanks again for all you support.

you have basically 4 choices for decent AGP video card performance, Nvidia 7600GT and 7800GS or ATI X1950GT or X1950PRO (there is an AGP X1950XT however it requires a decent PSU to work).

All of these cards offer decent performance and have no problems running in any AGP 8x mobo, however the ATI cards do require a decent PSU to keep up with them, anything decent over 400W should be fine.
