Hello all.

First--my budget is within $75-$150. I'm looking for a PCI-E Video Card preferably going to be used in a audio recording rig. I'm looking for a quiet video card but would be fast enough to run basic video games (WoW, CS:S, etc).

Thanks

IMO there's very, very few off-the shelf cards that are actually quiet. Everytime I buy one that has reviews that say it's quiet, it's only quiet compared with a vacuum cleaner fan.

Get a 4830 or 4850 (or whatever the nVidia equivalent is) and an accelero + zip tie a very quiet fan on there.

Ultimately what I did. Takes up 3 slots, but I don't care. It performs well and is really quiet, and that was worth the extra $20 or whatever for the accelero plus a fan.

I'm quite confused with your suggestion. I did a little searching on accelero.. and it's just a big heatsink. What do you intend to do with the zip-tie? Just insure that the connection between VGA & accelero heatsink is even "more secure"? Thank you, btw, for your quick response.

Yes, the zip ties are for the fan. Put the fan over the VRM heatsink on the video card and zip tie it to the fins of the accelero. Undervolt the fan and you have a VERY quiet card with a lot more margin than a fanless card (which I've also had some issues with, because people going with fanless cards also tend to go for quiet power suppies and cases, which means less airflow. Fanless + low case airflow sometimes means it will overheat.)

Buy a passive card? There's some passive 9800gt's but also passive HD4670's afaik.
