www.newegg.com and
www.xoxide.com are by far the best places to buy just about everything. From my experience, when dealing with 80mm fans, it's best to go for the highest CFM you can find, considering how little noise they make and how inexpensive they are. I believe Xoxide has some that monitor RPM, though such a feature warrants a raise in price by a few dollars.
Thats fine if your case is under your desk but one of mine sits on it (Shuttle SN41G2).
So CFM has to be weighted against DB.
Given the following, I go for the 20 DB:
0 The softest sound a person can hear with normal hearing
10 normal breathing
20 whispering at 5 feet
30 soft whisper
50 rainfall
60 normal conversation
110 shouting in ear
120 thunder
On the decibel scale, the smallest audible sound (near total silence) is 0 dB.
A sound 10 times more powerful is 10 dB.
A sound 100 times more powerful than near total silence is 20 dB.
A sound 1,000 times more powerful than near total silence is 30 dB.
Add a fan, increase the decibels... don't forget 30 db is ten times as loud as 20.
