Ok, I suppose the bike snobs of the world will laugh at $450, but I'm looking for best bang for the buck at this price point. The bike is for one of my sons who turns 10 next month. He is 52 inches tall and fell in love with a Fuji Nevada 4.0 that he saw at a local bike shop about 18 months ago. After reserching around at several local shops, looking at the same price point offerings from Trek, Giant, and Haro, the best offering was still from Fuji: Al frame instead of heavy steel (NOT Chro-mo), better components, trigger shift, etc...

Here's a discounted 4.0 that I'm thinking would be suitable. It's not in the original paint scheme from 2011 edition, but it's still nice looking.

There is no concern of getting a bike that's "too big" per se as he will grow into it... What size do you recommend to start?

AND... Any other recommendations aside from the Fuji?

At that price point, used is going to be a WAY better value. However, I appreciate you might want a new bike since this is a present. My other recommendation would be an Airborne Guardian, but that is a bit out of your range and they are sold out until August...

I was going to recommend the Airborne Skyhawk but it doesn't look like they even offer that anymore. You really just have to go set him on some bikes and see if he can get away with a XS 26er. If he can that would be the way to go. 24er are heavy POS usually and with a 26er you can always buy a XS frame and we he out grows that pick up a bigger frame for $100 and swap everything over.

Everything will pretty much be the same in that price catagory so just pick the one he likes the best/fits the best. And yes used would be the best bang for the buck but finding an XS frame may not be easy.
