Ok, I'm helping a friend of mine put together a system. He does mostly graphics like Photoshop, web work, etc. He's got the monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, all the works. Just needs the box. And he's on a $300 budget.

I assume you'd want a semi-decent 3D card (GF2mx, maybe cheapo GTS or Pro), ok audio (can be integrated), lotsa RAM (256mb at least) and a 10-20-30gb (7200rpm?) HDD. Of course I could be wrong. Overclocking will work and I have a spare 600mhz Duron that will hit 850 at 1.75. I might also have some memory. I was obviously planning on buying/trading the rest here in AT forums cause I know I can get the stuff for cheap.

Any suggestions? Please keep in mind everything has to be kept under $300. Oh, and I have a case + PSU and necessary IDE cables.

hmmmm, if its photoshop what matters is RAM and CPU, for a budget of $300 i would get:

duron 600@850
coolermaster HSF-$10
mobo: ecs k7s5a w/ on board sound/LAN- $52
RAM - 256MB Crucial 2100-$81
video-GeForce 2MX 200 32MB OR Radeon 7000 32MB -$45
hard drive-20GB 7200RPM -$70

total - $258 ( should be $300 with s/h)

Ok, will stick with the MX/R7000. Same with HDD. Sounds good. I can spare a CD-ROM I think. I also have a few FDDs, don't know if they work though. Any other ideas?

EDIT: I have a heatsink.
