ok I've had this EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard for about two years and it clearly just is not stable. I have random freeze ups all the time, raid0 disk errors, and other little things like that.. after tons of testing and observation and reading some reviews, I've learned that this board isn't as good as I thought it would be when I bought it (You'd think that $300 for a motherboard would mean decent amount of quality).

Can anyone suggest some really good boards for me?

I have an i7 Quad Core cpu, 6GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 PC3 12800 memory, and an Antec 850W psu.

any input is appreciated.

I almost bought the E758. The X58A-UD5 has been nothing but a great board for me. I read that the new revision will have some nice new designs implemented, but I have no idea when it's being released.

Could it be you just have a bad board? That an RMA would fix? I have had my board and have it maxed out with all memory filled and all pci slots filled with the latest bios update and no issues. Only issue I had was the NIC ports wouldnt turn on when booted into an OS but I disabled them and added an intel nic. Other then that no problems.

I was wondering if you have tried a better PSU with the system to see if that solved the issue.

I have the 758-A1. Best board I've ever owned. I'd try an RMA first before tossing it out.

Only gripe I have with the board is VREG cooling.

you dont think my psu is good enough??

I don't even know what model Antec it is, or if it's defective. When troubleshooting always start with the free or cheap things. A PSU is cheaper than buying another SLI X58 board. Or try RMA'ing the board. You'll just pay shipping. You bought the A1, use what you payed for.

I'm in the same boat. I might be unloading this 760 Classified ...

I have an Asrock X58 Xtreme for my AVCHD machine and it's fucking rock solid tits! I just want to venture off with a different board other than the one I have but at the same time, I don't want another EVGA, (i'd buy an EVGA vid card..) I don't want a MSI, Asus.. so my choices are slowly narrowing...

Lets keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks I appreciate it.

To the OP I know this may sound like a stupid question but have you kept up with the latest BIOS'. I know that the newest one are geared toward 32nm cpus but there could be one that would work best for your board that you may not have tried yet.

actually i JUST thought about that... i completely forgot about upgrading my bios. I am going to try it in a minuter here. It only means I have to restart my pc which will probably result in a raid hard disk error as usual... but its worth a try. I've had to leave my pc on non stop for a week now to avoid all the issues. At least it's not constantly freezing like it used to do.

I'll upgrade and see what happens.

THanks for the input guys

actually I'm confused about what BIOS package I need to download/install...

I went to http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/ > EVGA X58 Series > then there are several BIOS options... not sure which one I want... or all of them?

plz help

You were on the right track...go to http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/ > Mainboards > EVGA X58 Series > E758 - X58 SLI BIOS

Then follow the instructions on the next page. I usually do my bios flashing from usb and commmand line. Looks like there were a few fixes/updates to your raid0 issues as well. Good luck.

For Bios .. take the latest or most uptodate Bios. It will have all the previous updates included. If your Raid function is set from Bios; in the Storage options: changing the Bios will wipe out the raid settings. So before it boots after the Bios change go immediately back into Bios and set or reset your Raid preferences. If it boots to the OS it will wipe out the Raid setting and you will wind up reloading the OS ! I just made that screwup last week !

I have a 758 board in the closet. Never had a problem and overclocked like crazy.
