I need to replace my old 17" Nec monitor and have decided to go with a flat panel LCD. What is a good brand and what would you say is the best value? Cost is important but not and overriding factor. Thanks

Goto www.tomshardware.com ... good workup... I myself go with the horde and say the Samsung 171v is a GREAT choice right now (till Sat 28th) you can get the Samsung at Bestbuy ($150 mailin rebate) . Best Deal around but you'd better hop on it.... GL

Theres a new hitachi one out that has a 12ms responce time. Theres a review of it on gamepc.com, i think.
It comes in two colours as well!!!(whooooooo)Black and White (or carbon & ivory as hitachi likes to call it) It also has a DVI connector as well a the standard D-SUB. And comes with the DVI cable as well.
Its a very well spec`d monitor for the price, ans is currently the best gaming monitor out. No ghosting/lag/trails whatsoever.

FYI, the response time is 16ms not 12ms.

Thanks for the update KnightBreed, I forgot,
I just quickly glanced at the specs, they say 12ms+4ms. It is 16ms.

Link to 171v on samsung's web page
I have one of these myself. Bought it at Best Buy on Black Friday, the $549 - $150 MIR = $399 deal. I haven't tested it with that many games, since I've been using onboard video on my shuttle SS51g (currently waiting for my video card from newegg). I've used it with Quake 2 and Unreal Tournament, with no noticeable ghosting at all. :)
I have no clue what the response time it (anyone know?), but I have no right to complain. I upgraded to this from a 15" eMachines crt .
This monitor + Cleartype = heaven.

I should be getting this in the new year, as replacement for my 5year old 19" CRT.
