My boss is looking for recommendations for 3D graphing programs. Cost is important, but he is able to pay a thousand or two if need be. He is quite used to using most forms of Spyglass software (plot, transform, etc.) However these are so old (early 90s) that they just don't work on any modern Windows operating system and are quite limited in number of colors the video card is set to display (quite annoying to switch the display properties every time you run the program).
Since I won't be using it, it is hard for me to describe the features that are needed. But here is an attempt.
[*]Ability to import a large variety of file formats.
[*]Ability to select any subset of columns or rows in that file and create 3D graphs.
[*]Ability to easilly rotate, zoom, color, etc those graphs.
[*]Ability to easilly slice into the graphs in complex ways and see internal features.
[*]Animation would be quite useful.
[*]2D capability.
[*]Ability to go slice by slice through the 3D graph and make 2D graphs: possibly doing this automated, animated, or manually by scrolling through the rows or columns in the data file.
Anybody have good recommendations?
