Hi all, I splurged for a pair of Sennheiser 580's. While the sound is excellent, everyone in the same room can hear what you're listening too :Q .. which I found out embarrassingly at work the first day I wore them.

I'm not a true audiophile, but I do like the difference I hear between the cheapies and the 580's. Is there something comparable to the 580's that doesn't bleed sound?

No, I didn't spend $300 on them ;). I got a package deal on the 580's and an amp off of ubid. After selling off the amp on eb@y, the 580's were ~$100.

thanks for your suggestion, i'll check out that site.

The difference in expensive and cheap earphones isn't as much how they sound, but the external sound they keep out.

Personally, I got a pair of Sony MDR-V600s which I liked better than the Sennheisers I heard.

umm.. then why do they even make expensive ass open air headphones?

personally, i can't stand to use anything but open airs. my ears heat up and get irritated with closed ones if i use them for more than an hour or so. :(

I've never had trouble keeping external sound out .. I just turn the volume up :D
I find that the sound on the cheapies are more muffled and doesn't have the range of better headphones.
