I need a budget PCI-E vid card for parents computer. Probably nothing needed for gaming but, still want something decent. Looking for $80 range. What is the best bang 4 buck vid PCIE vid card with 256mb+ memory. Something with good warranty as well. Give me your recommendations. :)

So far my thoughts are in the evga/bfg 6600gt or maybe 7600gs/gt area.

6600gt, they are cheap and can handle most tasks, short of hard core gaming. I have one for sale too. ;)

Yeah thanks for the recommendations. I think 6600GT is what im going to aim for. I wish there was a rebate deal going on for one for $30AR like there has in the past.... : /

Is this a good deal? It lacks DDR3 memory and only has DDR2 memory but bleh... Its $30.
NO its much slower but runs a lot cooler but for $30 its ok. I would get a 7600gs over a 6600gt if you can find a good deal. The 7600gs is as fast or faster than a 6600gt and uses about half the power.

I see.... Sounds like 6600gt is the best bet if I can find one of those $30AR deals. Or find someone selling one for $30-$40 anyways.

Why would you even think that? Don't tell me: because it has a larger number in its name :disgust:

"6 600 GT" is a strong mid-range card from NVidia's 6th series/generation.
"7 100 GS" is a absolute bottom-of-the-barrel budget card from NVidia's 7th series/generation.

You have a system built already? If you're building, you can always use a motherboard with the new AMD690 chipset and its "free" X1250 graphics. Pretty darn good for free, and full-featured.

IF you need a new motherboard. ;)

Other than that, any 7300LE or X1300 variant should be more than enough. Go fanless, if you can.

If your parents don't need it don't build them a computer with a graphics card. Build them one with on-board graphics. My buddy built his mom a computer 5-6 years ago and put in a $150 Voodoo4 just so when he went home to visit (1-2x a year) he could game on her computer. I almost kicked his ass for that one.

Yeah, I have the mobo already so thats not an option. :p CC has the evga 7100 for $30AR. I think im just gonna go with that. Should be plenty for typical desktop stuff like photoshop and other junk I would assume. Thanks for the help.

Remember - stick with fanless wherever possible... ma & pa won't like noisy fans (though they may not appreciate the difference until they hear a QUIET computer!)
