Hey all!

I want to try the wonderful art of airbrushing for my Anime Resin figure models. I know a few things about airbrushes except which one to get. Here are the requirements:

-Double Action
-Can use Propellant Can and can be coverted later to a compressor (at least at first to get used to the brush to see if I even like airbrushing. I am also guessing this just matters for the hose, not the airbrush)
-Not too hard to clean
-Around $50 for a set if possible (give or take a little)

Any suggestions on which to get and from where?

bought damn time I finally saw some resin discussed here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your price area is a problem: a decent airbrush will cost you some dough. Alot of beginners like to try the Aztec series of airbrushes, due to cost considerations, but they have been plagued with problems, and easily clog.
May I suggest the Badger Crescendo ? This runs around 57 bucks, is available in a medium tip, or a fine ( order the medium, you can blast a base coat with it, or do fine work as well), and holds up like iron.
This is a real airbrush, not plastic crap like alot of the beginners stuff. I have had mine for at least 6 years now, and have had -0- problems with it. ( I also own 4 others, but use the Badger the most often).
Also, I realize a compressor can be an expensive proposition, but is well worth it, even if you buy one of the lower end ones, as canned air has the problem of inconsistent air pressure.
Just like the cans of computer " dust off", the compressed air cans get colder as the propellant is used, and thus the outlet pressure keeps getting reduced. Also, they become expensive.
Look for a used compressor at a garage sale- it'll save a bunch of frustration.
For some great modeling tips and pics, check out "Gremlins In The Garage" @ gremlins.com for some great pics and help: also my site Black Star Models for some neat resin kits.

Ok, ok...forget the canned air thing. :p

I have been reading some good things about the Passach VL airbrush. Any ideas on this one?

BTW, is that Badger Crescendo this one:

Badger?

Looks nice. I don't mind spending the extra little bit to get the set. Like I said, around $50 (give or take). $69 is still reasonable.

I'd definately say Badger. I have a Crecendo myself and it kicks ass. I haven't touched in over a couple of years. I would second the idea of getting an air compressor. Even those little badger ones, you can find them on ebay for kinda cheap now days. Less than a hundred bucks I would say. I have my Crecendo if you wanna buy it. It's about a few years old, still in good shape though. Just gotta get one of those new needles and you'll be good to go. I'll sell it to you for cheap too, like what? $50.00 shipped? Let me know if you're interested.

actually I goofed: the Badger I have is the Anthem ( same website- back up a page, the Anthem is there). I used to have the crescendo, but found it a little big for my hand ( the Anthem has a much narrower body). Both nice pieces. The Anthem has kind-of a medium tip that you can use for everything. Bottom feed as well- use their steel siphon cup, or draw right from a bottle.

Any other suggestions on an airbrush out there? How about suggestions on a compressor and what I need on a compressor.

I have used Passche airbrushes for over 20 years........they make some of the finest around, although I think I have a badger somewhere and they are also quality pieces.

I would second the Anthem. As soon as I get some extra cash I'll probably be picking up the Anthem.

To the experts, what is good paint to use on just regular paper? I plan to buy a packet of paper that artists use to draw on and I'm going to practice my spraying on that, for now.

I probably will get a badger. I have heard suggestions for the Anthem from multiple people so that's the one I may get.

As for the Aztek, I actually have one. A 430. That's one of the reasons I am looking for an airbrush. :)

Any suggestions on a compressor?

I have a Pasche VL airbrush which i really like. I also have an Aztek double action with 3 different tips. I find the Aztel easy to clean and the different screw on tips are nice but I really only use it foe preliminary work and even at that it hasn't seen enough action for a real fair evaluation.

The Pasche is nice and I use it for everything. It was what my airbrush class instructor required as well.

...and remember canned air is only a temporary expensive solution.
