Guys I have been out of the system building space for years. The last system I built used state of the art Athlon XP 2000 (ok back then it was sweet). My brother is building a workstation out in Cali. strictly for use as a modeling/animation workstation. I believe one of his main apps is Maya. He is taking a certificate program so he can break into animation or gaming industry and needs something that cuts down rendering time. His current dual xeon (~ 2 x 2.7-3.0 Ghz) Alienware system (2-3yrs old) isn't cutting it any more.

With all the chipsets that are out there I am real confused to what some of best dual CPU mb's that can support an 2 x Intel quad core xeon cpus are. I favor Asus and Abit MB's since they are reliable and since I dont care to overclock much. My bro wants to get the Supermicro X7DAL-E.

He doesn't need the absolute bleeding edge combo but something comparable would be nice. The budget is about $1,600 - $2,000 for a MB, 2 CPU's, quite/cool case, power supply, heat sinks/fans, sound card.

He already has the video card , vista 64, and ram (hopefully the CORSAIR DOMINATOR DDR2 PC2 8500 is good) Any links and comments would be helpful to build the best system for our budget.
