Need recommendation for cheap system.

I've been asked to buy or build an inexpensive system for an employee for this small business as a Xmass gift. I don't really know what it'll be used for but I suspect word processing, email, webbing and some childrens software.

I usually build my own but if I buy I get XP.

Q1: Is there any decent onboard video? I've used a couple A7N266-VM's (nForce1) and I suppose it's good enough for their needs.

Q2: Usually I use AMD but would Intel be quieter?

Define cheap please.

1) A7N266-VM is a solid choice for a budget system.
2) Processors produce heat, not noise. 😉 Choose a nice fan to keep the noise levels down while keeping the temp in check.

nForce 2 and a Athlon XP 1600+ w/ 256 DDR266 would be great

You've got excellent onboard audio
You've got excellent onboard LAN
You've got the best onboard graphics - GF4 MX (Which will run children's games fine)

nfroce boards have built in nvidia graphics, all of em, best on board video available, good sound too, i believe'

check hot deals for other stuff, CDRW (one starting tomorrow, big deal with rebates, comes to 10 bucks for a good burner, they pay you 10 if you use the msn thing) hard drives, ram and the like
