need recommendation for all-in-one/multi-function machine

I'm trying to help my friend buy a multi-function machine. I'm not a big fan of them because I tend to think they typically aren't that good at anything, but she can not be swayed. She wants to spend no more than $400. Can anyone recommend a specific model in that price range? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.
 
i was going to say sonys are great iv had mine for 2.5-3 yrs no problems at all. but they are a little expensive i would look at dell.
 
by "multi-function" are you referring to a printer/fax/scanner/copier? i've been pretty happy with the canon mp730 that i got.

maybe mini mac if she is willin to spend extra $100
if not then yes look at dell
 
If she wants one on a cheap and doesn't have AOL, she might qualify for their free computer offer (comes with printer and monitor).

Would strongly suggest to her that it's a dead end deal though. If the system is custom build, at least it's upgradeable and she'll get a return for selling older parts. Always better to build your own.
