1080p resolution minimum, 1200p preferred. Matte screen if possible. Need good viewing angles and minimal eye strain, so I figure some type of IPS.

What is out there that is readily available, comes from a well-known brand (it's being bought by a non-savvy person), and would satisfy for the next 3-5 years though coming in under ~$250? Budget is slightly negotiable if vast benefits can be had.

Thanks!

Software wise, you should consider using F.lux.

Changes your screens brightness to help your eyes. Takes a bit to get used too, but it's nice!

For 1080P, used in a well-lit space, Dell's P2214H, P2414H, IMO (their main downside is greater than average glow, but that's only noticeable if the room is very dark, and what's on the screen is dark).

1200P starts going over that budget, these days, and the good new MVAs are all much bigger panels, with costs to match :|.

If OP can be picky about when they buy, I see the dell 2412m on sale ~1/month at newegg for ~$250 new, and if you're willing to check out amazon warehouse deals, it's pretty consistently ~$200.

Canadian here, so not able to take advantage of those deals (not really anyway).

I looked at the P2214H, just wanted confirmation. Thanks guys.

It'll do well, though you can probably find the 23" or 24" for barely more (using PCPP for prices, the P2414H can be had cheaper than the P2214H!). Along with their Ultrasharp cousins (USB 3.0, HDMI, Adobe RGB), they're among the best I've seen in terms of looking at for a long time, since WLEDs took over from CCFLs (the 27" models use a totally different panel series).
