Im getting very frustrated with Dlink router and I m not happy with it. I m thinking to buy another brand of router that has less complication with firewall built in. I m still having some problme with firewall that wont allow me to access. I couildnt figure what's going on.

Everytime I leave my computer on for a while then came back to surf, it wont allow me to access any internet so I had to hit restart every time which is very annoying. I got fed up and think it's time for me to find another router unless u guys have a better idea for me to resolve the problem.

Again tell me which one should I buy one. Linksy or netgear?

thanks for your help...

Have installed both linksys and netgear, and no complaints for the last years.
You cant go wrong with either one of them. 🙂

Basically, depends on cost vs. feature requirements.

A lot of people I know use Linksys.
Linksys NR041 is cheap and low-feature, then BEFSR41 a bit better/more $, then BEFSX41 a bit better/more $, then BEFVP41.
Higher-end than that, look at ZyXEL or a PC running OpenBSD or Linux.

If the NR041 box has all the features you need (it's very basic), it might actually be your best bet - fewer features approximately means fewer bugs.

Netgear OEMs stuff from a lot of places, and so you need to talk particular models to know good from bad.

SMC used to be very solid but from what I'm hearing the VBR users are not happy. A 7004ABR should be okay, and is feature similar to the Linksys BEFSR41 I believe.

Assuming that if you connect your computer directly to the Modem you do not get disconnect.

Assuming that there is no Menu Entry in the Router, like Auto Connect or Disconnect when Idle etc., that is not checked incorrectly.

In the time spent on this BBS and others you would find equal amount of people complaining about any of the Entry Level Routers. Whether it is Linksys, D-Link, SMC, Netgear etc. there is always complains.

I believe that the Intra-variation of ?bad? units within the Brand is larger than the Inter-variation between Brands.

There is very few OEM Manufactures of this hardware and most of it is the same core with different menu structure and a variety of colored plastic.

The complains is a result of what is probably the poorest quality control in the industry.

What to do?

Look for a good sale (does not matter which entry level brand), buy it in a Mega Store. Open it immediately and very careful (keep the boxes etc. very clean). There is usually at least two weeks before the deadline of the rebate, so do not cut the SKU.

Try it for few days. It works well keep it. It does not return.

Thanks for all your advice.. I think i will try linsky but i m gonna keep trying to figure what's wrong with Dlink router 604 tonight. If I still can't figure then I will look for a reasonable price on other router depends on sale. I tried everything but the router keeps blocking when the computer was idling... I am ready to threw router out of the window heh... Anyone know why?
