I would like to add cheap front panel audo connection to my case but am having trouble finding one - my hope is I can find one that will plug into the headers on the MB. All I really want to be able to do is plug mic and headphones in on the front when I need them. Any thoughts or suggestions?

The Silverstone panels that fit in a floppy bay are good and inexpensive. The Egg has had them at a good price but you may find better from a reliable source like SVC.com et al. The FP31 is for the older style audio connections and the FP32 is for the newer (may be backward compatible too). For some cases you may also need the extender bracket for the FP31. Or you may be able to use parts from http://www.frontx.com to rig your own.
