My current receiver is a Denon 1612. We had a lightening storm recently and afterwords I have no video output from the Denon. Everything was on power protectors but I didn't have coax protection so evidently that's what got me. I've been happy with it and just thought I'd ask to make sure there wasn't something I'm missing. Think of getting another 1612 or a 1613 for $200 or $220 refurbed. Don't want to spend much more than $250 but will go to $300 if something really deserves it.

Not an audio or videophile. Just want halfway decent sound from tv/movies/games. Speakers are just Polk Monitor 50's up from with a CS1 center. Sub is a Bic F12.

If it works for you I see no reason to switch away from Denon, they're generally well built receivers and have a good feature set for the money. You should be able to get something newer than the 1612 or 1613 within your budget though. You might want to look at the Denon 1712 which is a nice step up from the 1612 since it uses Audyssey rather than the regular Multi EQ which does a better job. You also get 2 more HDMI inputs than the 1612 has which is always a plus, at least for me since I always seem to be adding devices to my setup.
