i just got my retail 3000+ and gigabyte board in the mail. dont i have to put thermal compound between the cpu and its heatsink before locking them in ? there was no instructions to do so in the amd retail box (besides saying you must use thermal compound in the warnings) . no compound came in the box with the processor. do i need to run to compusa before they close ?

well im not ribbon13, but ill answer. your retail heatsink that came with your CPU has whats called a thermal pad. it should look like a square inch of grey matter. that is sufficient to use.

good luck!

If it's a retail CPU the thermal material is already on the heatsink, should be a patch of it on the bottom. If you want to use something different you need to remove the stuff on the heatsink and put on the new stuff.

I've been doing a lot of research and development for home automation. Eats a large chunk of time.

I do however now have my refrigerator on the network, and can remotely check and change the temperature of the freezer, fridge, and 3 crisper drawers separately ^^

ribbon13 - When are you going to send me pictures of your computer? You have a webcam and sent me the picture of a speaker (one of 14 you say around your computer), but for some reason you said you didn't have a camera and then you quit answering my pm's. Whats the deal? I want to see that kick butt computer of yours. Show and tell time!
