Need Real Estate advice

I've never owned property before and want to buy a house on some land (a few acres of something). Can anyone that has experience in this area please give me some advice.

BTW I am looking in the 200-300K range and I'm not too picky about the location.

SW NY area has some cheap real estate that will fill your needs. For 200-300K you'd probably be able to get 30+ acres easily.
