Need RAM Advice: Building System - Little Knowledge

Hi all, I thank you in advance for your advice and expertise. I haven't built a system in 5 years and I am putting one together right now. For most parts I've done a lot of research and found what works for me but RAM has always been tough for me to grasp. I haven't kept up with the newest technology and I've always been too lazy to understand timings :)

That being said, can anyone give me some advice for what to put into my system? I'm going to have a "ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard" along with an i7 930. The system is going to be used for some gaming but nothing major where I'm worried about FPS and I'm not too worried about having the best system for such activities. I don't do much if at all with video editing. I really don't know how much good RAM is anymore but I'd rather not spend more than $300. I see from Newegg this more or less stops me from getting 6x2 but that's likely not necessary for me at this point, correct?

I'm assuming that a simple 3x2 will be fine for me, but I do want to be prepared for future programs and games. I'd like to spend more money now than having to upgrade in the future.

Suggestions welcome and thank you for all of your help!

You don't need more than a 3X2. Get the cheapest thing from a decent brand name that is closest to 1.5v (or lower) and you'll be fine. You won't really notice a difference in performance between kits unless you plan on building a system to run benchmarks.

I see that the higher PC3 memory (PC3 1600+) have voltages at 1.65V. I'm assuming that's standard for this memory? Is it the case that memory running at higher than 1.5V would require an overclock of the CPU to keep both stable?

Thanks, I'm just trying to see the problems I'd run into if I went with RAM higher than PC3 1333.

Thank you for the advice and help.

I think I've answered my own question by reading the other threads. Going to stick with 1333 and 1.5V. Thanks again! :)
