I agree with you generally, and usually stay within 5MPH of the limit. However when you start thinking about a 5-7 hour trip, those 10 minutes per hour start to really add up. Would you like to arrive at your destination a full HOUR sooner? Hmmmmm.....

My first cross country drive (coast to coast) was 4625 miles. I agree, it absolutely makes a difference. It sucks running across hundreds of miles of straight nothingness pegged right at the speed limit.

That's exactly how I got my last ticket. I HATE to take long to pass. You never know if the other person sees you or not. People always make random lane changes for no reason and without signalling. I like to just quickly make the pass and get back over and settle back to a comfortable speed.

Exactly. I don't care how hard the safety ninnies cry; I'm not hanging out to dry in the passing lane all day long because I'm afraid to go no greater than 9 mph over the posted speed limit. Nor will I crawl along like a snail behind some safety nitwit in his 4 banger Camry going 54 in a 55 for the same reason. If you are going too slow in front of me; I will pass you. Vigorously. Thank you Escort. :D

How much actual time do you save by requiring a detector.

Most places you are safe at/below 9.

Is the 10 minutes you save on a 60 mile drive by going 10 faster than "safe" that valuable?
This is a silly argument. I don't speed to save time, I speed because it's fun.

The best consumer electronics purchase I've ever made was my Escort 9500ix and ZR4 jammer. With a majority of police using LIDAR, buying a radar detector alone is like using a condom with the end snipped off. The ZR4 works (over a dozen laser saves to date), but it's a lower-end jammer; I bought it as a package deal, so it made sense for me. If you have the coin, get a high-end jammer like a Laser Interceptor: http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/ The 9500ix is awesome because it has GPS-lockout, and you can also setup GPS-triggered alerts for cameras/speed-traps/etc.

Even with high-end hardware, you'll still want to augment your countermeasures with smartphone apps like Waze or Escort Live, which crowd-source traffic enforcement data.

I have a V1, it has worked well for me. Its not a Cop Detector so its not like you can speed all day.

They can still get you on Pop or Laser. Or Even on Normal Radar if your the only car out.

Yesterday, I just seen a Max vs a V1 Laser test. What are you talking about it doesn't pick up laser?

They pick up laser when it's pointed right at your car. Too late.

Same with instant on radar. If there are other cars on the road, you will pick up blips as he clocks cars in front of you. But if you are the only car on the road, you will pick it up when he pulls the trigger on you. Too late.

Considering a 9500ix or a Valentine 1

Are you driving mostly in town or interstate? If the latter, is the drive hills or curves? If so, I'd recommend the redline over the 9500. The gps of 9500 is great for city driving. Kind of a waste on the interstate. If you don't have good line of sight, the better antenna in the redline is the way to go.

Well this would be for in-town mostly. The police was in the same spot as last time and it's sorta hidden by another building so there was no line of sight but the area is marked as a 25, which no one ever does. The police don't sit there every-day but it's a speed trap zone.

Since you're mostly in town, I'd say the 9500 would be your best bet. Unless you mate up the redline with Live! service to add the gps functionality and don't mind manually adding known speed trap and red light camera spots.

V1 would be a less powerful redline, but without the option to add any gps ability. I'd probably not consider it in your case. It would drive you nuts in town without any of the lockout abitlity.

The latest Redline also has a work around solution for GPS marking and identifying false radar spots? And how does it compare to the 9500ix in city/town driving? We, our yard, is going to be an hour away (1 way) we will be doing this for a month or two then we'll have living situations supplied by the company..

In order to get any gps lockout ability with the redline you have to have escort live service on android/iphone. Separate service that's like $20/yr. For your situation I'd go with the 9500 no questions. The choices are really:

9500 vs Redline with Escort Live
or
Redline stock vs V1

There's almost no reason to cross shop the 9500 and V1. Apples and oranges.

So the 9500 has a higher latency when it comes to notifying the driver, correct? Is this both with City & Highway? And by how much?

Anything by Beltronics/Escort (they're the same company.) Avoid all other companies.

Valentine is ok too, but they have a problem with being too sensitive which can give you too many false signals.

I have a 9500ix and an Escort IQ. I plan to get an Bel STI-R Plus (the best radar detector on the market period, by far) next year with Laser Interceptors.

If you are thinking of an STi-R Plus with LI, these guys look like the do a fantastic job with integrating the system in your car.

So I've been leaning a little more towards the Max VS the Redline but I'm curious now how the Max would get updates to it's Firmware.

What would really be cool is if the Max would record how fast you were going when the Radar or Laser hit your vehicle. I know the past few times the police officer said I was going 42 and that he dropped the charge to 40 in a 25. The first time I might have been doing that but this last time I don't think that was possible. I would of really had to be on the gas to be doing 42mph in less than an 1/8th of a mile from a stand still. It may of even been less than 50 yards
