need quiet components advice

i fried my PSU.. thinking it was a bad power cable.

anyway, ideally it damaged nothing else.

would like a new case, psu, and fans. any advice on compoments that are fairly inexpensive? Right now im eyeballing the antec performance series

Indeed, there are a few components that you can go "cheap" on and be safe but a PSU is not one of them. I third the recommendation of the SeaSonic. Do you have a budget for the rest of the components? Personally I'm a big fan of the Cougar CF-V12HP fans, very good air movement while being whisper quiet.

We can't really recommend a power supply unless we know the rest of your components. A 650W may be a good idea or might be crazy overpowered.

Also, what's your budget in dollars? "Fairly inexpensive" for one person is $75, for another it's $200.

Your thread title says you want "quiet components".

"Quiet" and "inexpensive" tend to not go together, particularly for cases, fans, and power supplies--not to mention that each term means different things to different people.

I'd at least be sure the case used 120mm or larger fan mounts.

Kingwin Lazer series are good. If you go Seasonic S12, get the SSR models.

Case...depends. But, the Fractal Design Define R4 and Define Mini are nice.

it can be done with mods for lower performance rigs using slightly higher quality products in low to mid-range pricing.

but i say do it right, considering how much cheaper pc parts/mods are than compared to several years ago; and just buy stuff that's ready to go.

you may have to be more specific with what is being crunched in the PC, firstly.

well, many perfoemance parts ive bought are extremely loud. im just looking for a good budget 😉.
i decideded on the seasonic...hopefully my pc boots!

if it does, think ill replace the high db fans first. then go for a new case.

the fractal design case someone mentioned seems like a good start!

the psu that exploded was a nice..albeit aged... enermax. budget isnt really a issue, but i tend to like value/bang for the buck

If a power supply is 5 years old I usually don't reuse it. Even electronics ware out eventually. Some power supplies are prone to fill up with dust and just burn up.
